Gene Convention, Part 2 @ 11:50 pm

Current Location: Pittsburgh
Current Mood: tired tired

On Friday, there was a luncheon, and the Marsha Hunt dolls and outfit were unveiled at that time, rather than that night, to try to cut down on a huge crowd in the sales room afterward.  The dolls are great (although they don't look a lot like Marsha), as is the outfit, so I bought the lot.  I am going to be living on Kraft macaroni & cheese for a couple of months!

I took a bunch of pictures of the "grey ladies," the special black and white Genes made in extremely limited quantities for this convention.  People signed up to design for them, and then they (and the outfit) would be auctioned off for charity.  Here's a link to pictures:

Friday night was the costume party.  I didn't dress in costume (just dressed up), but several people did.  Here's a link to pictures I took that night.

Had a quiet morning Saturday, then stood in line for 50 minutes to pay $95.60 to ship five dolls, two outfits, a backdrop, a purse (human-sized), and miscellaneous other stuff back to Alaska.

In the afternoon, there was a screening of the Marsha Hunt film noir, Raw Deal.  Not a bad flick, and pretty good for the genre.  Afterward, there was a question and answer session, then everyone scattered to get ready for the big finale.

The finale dinner started on time. The centerpiece doll (which I won the chance to purchase) was a variant of Rogue Rose called Silver Rose.  She has a raven updo, and is dressed in a silver lame' gown with black trim.

The centerpiece doll, Shadow Song, is blonde, in a black over red formal gown.  Also very pretty.

The grey lady auction brought in over $25,000 for charity.  Congratulations!

Saturday photos

Back home tomorrow; it's going to be a very long day, with a 5+ hour layover in Chicago.  And back to work on Monday.  Ugh!

Final take:  eight dolls (one of which I won in a raffle); four outfits; and an assortment of other table gifts and souvenirs.  Plus stuff bought at the Pro Football and Rock & Roll Halls of Fame.  It's a good thing I don't do this every year!
