Back from the Mediterranean! @ 02:34 pm

I'm back from my Eastern Mediterranean cruise (boo!).  I actually got back last Sunday, but between jet lag and work, didn't have time to go through the over 1,000 pictures I took until this weekend.  Costco is printing out approximately 500 pictures for me to scrapbook (I won't be using them all, just want to make sure I have different views and options).

I loved Rome, and wished I had more time there.  Two and half days is not nearly enough time.  I did get to see the "important" things: the Vatican, the Colisseum, the Forum, Trevi Fountain.  But, I'd like to go back for a couple of weeks just to see the different neighborhoods, and take the train to some of the smaller towns.

I also really loved the Greek islands, particularly Santorini, which is really beautiful.  My favorite stop on the cruise was Delos, which is a small island near Mykonos which is solely an archaeological site (the only people who live there are archaeologists and their employees.  Visitors are limited to the morning hours, so that the archaeologists have the place to themselves the rest of the time.  We were there at a great time.  Beautiful weather, the spring flowers were still in bloom, and it hadn't gotten too crowded with tourists yet.

I'd love to go back to Santorini particularly and spend a week just exploring the island. Oia is especially lovely.

The cruise part itself was great, and the ship is beautiful.  It's relatively new, and this was its first Med cruise (it had just repositioned from the Caribbean where it was during the past winter.  Very modern, but with lots of plush chairs so it didn't seem sterile.  I loved the coffee bar area, and spent a lot of time there just listening to music and sipping a caffe mocha.

Here's a link to a website I put together with the pictures, and a mini travelogue (click the link at the top right of the "Welcome" page to access the photo albums).
