Trip Report, Part 1 @ 10:33 pm
Current Location: Pittsburgh
Current Mood:
tired

Hello from Pittsburgh! I am here for the Gene (doll) Convention, which actually doesn't begin until Thursday evening. However, since it takes approximately 12 hours (each way) to travel from Alaska, I came down a few days early to do some sightseeing.
Monday (after I had recovered from the travel day, plus the time change) I drove to Canton to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. It's a nice little museum. Unfortunately, I erroneously didn't think they would allow pictures, so didn't take my camera in. Lots of cool displays, from the beginning of football back in the 1800s, to the present.
Spent the night just south of Cleveland, then went to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. My favorite band (R.E.M.) was inducted this year, so I really wanted to go. It's a very nice set up, with tons of exhibits from all phases of popular music. There were separate exhibits for this year's inductees. There were also special exhibits for the Beach Boys, the Ramones, Jimi Hendrix, and several other groups/artists. No pictures allowed, but took some of the exterior, where they have a bunch of guitar sculptures set up. It was freezing--the windchill must have been close to zero, and the wind was really howling. I'll post the few pictures I took later.
Drove from Cleveland to Pittsburgh. It started to snow about an hour into the trip, but not hard and it was too warm to "stick," so no problems. I'm now in my third different hotel of the trip (all through Hotwire or Priceline). Plan to do some shopping tomorrow (mall right across the street), then check into the Hyatt at the airport, which is the convention hotel. I'm looking forward to staying put for four whole nights!
Tomorrow night I'll be going to the Chihuly glass exhibit at the Phipps Conservatory. Several of us are going together to the night exhibit, which should be really cool. I'll hopefully be able to get some good pictures.
Will update in a couple of days, before convention starts, then hope to update with convention pictures Friday and Saturday night, before returning home Sunday.
